The United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) and the First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability (FTAAAD) are pleased to celebrate the first anniversary of SeniorConnectKpt.org—a comprehensive web portal that links seniors, their families and caregivers, and other interested community members to 50 categories of resource and provider information.

As a community, Greater Kingsport offers many resources and services to seniors, but these resources are administered by multiple agencies and groups and are oftentimes difficult to locate. SeniorConnectKpt.org’s comprehensive, yet simple format makes it easy for seniors to browse the information categories, or search directly for a specific provider or unique information. There is also a library of helpful articles from other websites on various topics, including health-related conditions, nutrition, exercise, etc.  The “Calendar of Events” is a site favorite as it contains information related to local, upcoming events and activities that interest and engage seniors.

SeniorConnectKpt.org is the result of work performed by the UWGK’s Aging with Choices Vision Council, which is comprised of UWGK member agency representatives, community organizations and volunteers, and local service providers interested in improving life for seniors in Greater Kingsport.  The Aging with Choices Vision Council partnered with the Kingsport Times News Digital Group to design and build the portal, FTAAAD to manage the site, and various other partners including AARP and 2-1-1 Contact Concern to ensure the information needs of our seniors were met.

Several local companies help support the site through their sponsorship dollars, including UWGK, FTAAAD, AARP, Kingsport Times News, Eastman, Eastman Credit Union, Wellmont Health System, City of Kingsport, Comfort Keepers, Integrity Capital Management, and Emeritus of Kingsport.  Currently, there are approximately 300 providers listed on SeniorConnectKpt.org, and the site has had over 4,000 visitors since it went live in March 2013.

Additionally, the United Way of Greater Kingsport was recently awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award for 2013 by the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging for the development and launch of SeniorConnectKpt.org.
