The United Way of Greater Kingsport (UWGK) and the First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging and Disability (FTAAAD) are pleased to celebrate the second anniversary of SeniorConnectKpt.org—a comprehensive web portal that links seniors, their families and caregivers, and other interested community members to more than 50 categories of resource and provider information.

As a community, Kingsport offers many resources and services to seniors, but these resources are administered by multiple agencies and groups and are often difficult to locate. SeniorConnectKpt.org’s comprehensive, yet simple format makes it easy for seniors to browse the information categories, or search directly for a specific provider. There is also a library of helpful articles from other trusted websites on various topics, including health-related conditions, nutrition, exercise, etc.  The “Calendar of Events” is a site favorite as it contains information on local upcoming events and activities that interest and engage seniors and their families.

SeniorConnectKpt.org is the result of work performed by the UWGK’s Aging with Choices Vision Council, which is comprised of UWGK member agency representatives, community organizations and volunteers, and local service providers interested in improving life for seniors in Greater Kingsport.  The Aging with Choices Vision Council partnered with the Kingsport Times News Digital Group to design and build the portal, and FTAAAD to manage the site.

Several local companies help support the site through their sponsorship dollars, including UWGK, FTAAAD, Kingsport Times News, Eastman Credit Union, City of Kingsport, 2-1-1 Contact Concern, and Integrity Capital Management.  Currently, there are more than 300 providers listed on SeniorConnectKpt.org, and the site has had over 8,500 visitors since it went live in March 2013.

The United Way of Greater Kingsport was awarded the Outstanding Community Service Award for 2013 by the Southeastern Association of Area Agencies on Aging (SE4A) for the development and launch of SeniorConnectKpt.org, and the website was awarded a National Association of Developmental Organizations (NADO) Innovation Award in 2014.
